Import from text and SAF files¶
The dialog window for importing traces from text files makes it possible to extract the relevant data, however it is formatted, thanks to the functions described below:
Read Traces section
This section collects the information needed to locate, within the text file shown on the right of the dialog window, the position of the required data.
First row index
This field indicates the row containing the first row of the trace data.
N.B.: To read immediately the row number within the text file on the right of the dialog window, click at any point of the row so as to place the cursor there: the row number is then displayed at the bottom, next to the progress bar.
First column index
This field indicates the ordinal number of the column in which the first trace datum appears.
Sampling frequency row index
This field indicates the row containing the datum relating to the frequency at which the trace samples were recorded. The same considerations as for the "First row index" field apply for locating it. The frequency read in this way will be shown in the relevant field at the bottom of the window.
N.B.: Sometimes the sampling interval is reported instead, which is the inverse of the sampling frequency. Even if an incorrect index is entered, the procedure continues assuming a sampling frequency equal to 1, which will in any case be displayed in the above field and can be modified afterwards.
Separator character
In this field it is possible to choose a character, or enter one of your own, representing the character used in the text file to be imported to separate the data from each other (typically at least one space separator is present between one datum and the next).
Channel reordering section
Since files can be organised in various ways, this section makes it possible to associate each Easy HVSR channel with a specific column of the text being extracted.
Example
Suppose the trace columns in the text file are organised in the following order: Vertical; North-South; East-West. To read the information correctly it is therefore necessary to reorganise the extraction by entering the following values in the fields of each channel (in order): 2, 3 and 1.
Extract
The button named Extract starts the procedure for extracting data from the text file loaded in the dialog window. The data are then shown in the table right next to the button itself, so that the correctness of the extraction can be checked. During the extraction process the progress bar shows the status of the extraction.
OK and Cancel
The two buttons named OK and Cancel make it possible to accept or discard, respectively, the data extraction process carried out up to that moment.
