Importing the basin from TriSpace

The hydrographic basin to be analysed in Hydrologic Risk is prepared in TRISPACE, the GeoStru surveying and terrain-modelling software, and imported as a data file.

Digital terrain model

TRISPACE builds the digital terrain model (DTM) of the area of interest from spot-height plans, contour lines or surveys. To obtain the DTM you can rely on GeoStru Maps: from the TRISPACE File menu select the related command, identify the area of interest and create the terrain model to import into TRISPACE.

Reconstructing the hydrographic basin

From the terrain model, TRISPACE reconstructs the hydrographic basin. The assisted procedure is:

  1. Run the triangulation and draw the slope vectors from the Process section.
  2. Based on the slope vectors, identify the surface watershed (the basin outline, drawn clockwise) and the main river channel, from upstream to downstream: the channel direction sets the water-flow direction in Hydrologic Risk.
  3. Run the Create hydrographic basin command: TRISPACE generates a data file ready for Hydrologic Risk.

In the most recent versions of TRISPACE the basin reconstruction can be performed automatically from the terrain model, without manually tracing the watershed.

Importing into Hydrologic Risk

Import the file generated by TRISPACE into Hydrologic Risk from File → Import data file. The result is the hydrological basin with its river channel, ready for the morphometric and hydrological analysis.
