GeoStru lithological textures¶

Lithological textures are the images GeoStru desktop programs (Slope, LoadCap, Dynamic Probing, Static Probing, Stratigrapher, Liquiter…) use to fill soil layers in cross-sections and borehole logs. A texture is assigned to a layer by dragging it from the Textures panel onto the stratigraphy row.

Bundled with the programs¶

Since the 2026 releases the textures are bundled with every program setup (folder Textures next to the executable): the separate package is no longer required. Older versions keep using the downloadable package below.

Custom textures¶

To add your own textures copy BMP files into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Geostru\Textures\<category> (e.g. …\Textures\Cohesive): they show up automatically in the program's Textures panel next to the distributed ones. A file with a numeric name (e.g. 91.bmp) takes its description from the BMP_EN.FIL file of the same folder (description<TAB>number); otherwise the file name is shown. The Texture editor link in Preferences opens this folder.

Programs released before 2026 need the textures installed separately, free of charge:

textures_geostru_2026_setup.exe — installer (sets the registry paths automatically);
textures_geostru_2026.zip — files only (also includes the new DIN 4023 category): unzip into a folder and set the category paths in the program's Preferences → Textures.

Catalogue¶

Each texture is identified by a code (GEO.n for GeoStru textures, DIN.n for the DIN 4023 standard) and by its file number. The DIN 4023 category is the same catalogue used by the GeoStru NX web applications (Stratigrapher NX, GeoSection NX), with ISO 14688 equivalents.
